How to Create a Low-Maintenance Garden for the Whole Family

Most of us like the idea of a lovely garden – somewhere we can relax with a book on a warm day, watch our kids play safely, and entertain our friends and family with a BBQ in the summer. We want a safe, welcoming space that treats our senses. But we aren’t all natural gardeners. We don’t all have the time, skill, or inclination to get out into the garden pulling weeds, pruning shrubs, and watering flowers. Unfortunately, not that many of us have the opportunity to hire a gardener to do all of the work for us either. So, what do you do when you want a stunning garden the whole family can enjoy, without having to put in any of the work? You create a low-maintenance garden of course! Here’s a look at some of the ways that you can do just that.

Lose the Lawn

One of the first things that you might picture when you think of a pleasing garden is a luscious green lawn that stretches out in front of you. A lawn is a perfect place for kids and pets to play, and a stunning patch of green grass always looks gorgeous. But it’s not easy to achieve. To keep your grass looking its best you need to mow it regularly, spend time weeding and feeding it, and sometimes even add seed. A lot of work goes into a green lawn unless you use synthetic grass in Texas. The best synthetic grass in Texas is safe, comfortable, natural-looking, and incredibly easy to maintain.

Utilize Pots and Planters

If you want flowers and color in your garden, but don’t want to have to maintain flower beds, then planters and pots are the ideal choices. They look great and add color on their own, and they are easy to move when you need to shield your plants from the weather. You’ll never need to worry about digging anything up or covering large flower beds.

Prioritize Perennials

If you want a low-maintenance garden the last thing that you need is flowers that die and need replacing every year. Instead, choose perennials that come back every year, and try to find hardy options that can survive some inclement weather.

Weatherproof

When you lay decking, paint fences, or buy furniture, be sure to save yourself time in the future by weatherproofing straight away. If something isn’t weatherproof, don’t bring it into your garden.

Embrace a Natural Look

There are many advantages to embracing a natural look with wildflowers, overgrown lawns, and even some nettles and weeds. A natural garden is easy to maintain and great for wildlife and insects. You might not want the whole garden to be overgrown but leaving one area for nature can give you less to look after.

Invest in an Automatic Sprinkler

If you live somewhere hot and know that you are going to need to water your garden during the summer, it can be worth investing in an automatic sprinkler so that you’ve got one less thing to worry about.

A low-maintenance garden doesn’t have to be boring, and you certainly don’t have to sacrifice the things that you love. Just make sure before adding anything to your outdoor space, you consider how much looking after it’s going to need in the future.
